OR 2021

The International Conference on Operations Research is the joint conference of the Operations Research Societies of Switzerland (SVOR), Germany (GOR e.V.) and Austria (ÖGOR). Amid the global coronavirus pandemic, the OR 2021 was hosted online by the University of Bern from August 31 to September 3, 2021.

Designed around its special theme Business Analytics for Data-Driven Decision Making, the OR 2021 offered an excellent platform for academics and practitioners to present their most recent research and discuss trends in the industry. We welcomed more than 500 participants from operations research, management science, mathematics, data science and analytics. The scientific program included 360 live presentations via Zoom, 12 plenary and semi-plenary talks, and interactive sessions with editors from leading journals and business partners.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the virtual OR 2021 conference: the members of the Program and Organizing Committee, the stream chairs, our incredible plenary and semi-plenary speakers, the generous sponsors and partners, the event staff from the University of Bern and, last but not least, the participants and presenters who joined us from all over the world. You all made this event extraordinary.

The scientific program included 360 live presentations via Zoom, 12 invited talks, a Meet-the-Editors event with the Editors-in-Chief of CEJOR, MMOR and OR Spectrum, and an interactive tutorial session with our Gold sponsor Gurobi. In addition, PhD and Master students were invited to an exclusive event on the topic How to get your first paper accepted, where they got insights on successfully writing and publishing articles in academic journals.

The OR 2021 conference also offered a virtual get-together event on the social platform Gather Town. The virtual rooms in Gather Town – designed in the look and feel of the University of Bern – invited participants to interact with sponsors, socialize with colleagues, and take a virtual tour of the city of Bern – all from the convenience and safety of their homes or offices.
